Remediation Durability Practices Pty Ltd are very excited and eager to announce this great news to everyone in the Built Environment Industry!

The application to accredit course 𝟭𝟭𝟬𝟵𝟱𝗡𝗔𝗧 – 𝗗𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗺𝗮 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 was granted on 7 July 2022 by the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator (the Regulator) under the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011 (NVR Act).

Big congratulations to Harold Du Toit and Chris Anderson from Waterstop Solutions QLD Pty Ltd (Trading as WS Remedial Group), Dr. Elaine Roberts and Dr. Heather McCosker-Howard, who created this course to meet the skills and knowledge gaps in the Built Environment Industry not covered by any other training packages.

This qualification reflects the skills and knowledge required for skilled and paraprofessional work in built environment remediation practices (construction). Workers with this qualification are able to apply integrated and theoretical concepts to remediation practices, particularly in built environment structures and assets. Examples of areas of specialisation include builders; engineers; architects; construction managers.

𝗗𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗺𝗮 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 has received widespread support from over 30 industry stakeholders and associations.

Chris Anderson: We are humbled to be a part of this course that can significantly improve the industry for all stakeholders, addressing a previous gap in training. This would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the breadth and depth of industry support that this course received. To those of you who were involved in the development groups, we wish to acknowledge that the final course units underwent significant changes and improvements as a direct result of your expert knowledge and involvement. once again we thank you for supporting this initiative.

History of Remediation Durability Practices Pty Ltd and the making of the course Diploma of  Built Environment Remediation Practices

The course has received an incredible amount of input, review and support from a huge breadth of industry-leading stakeholders interested in improving the standard in the remedial building industry. 

 It all began in 2009 when Harold du Toit was invited as a guest speaker as a remedial specialist and project manager presenting to a cohort of mostly civil and structural engineers studying project management. After the event, Harold and lecturer Dr. Elaine Roberts discussed the lack of recognised training in the remedial sector and the course concept was first formed. 

Over the next few years, the two began canvassing the market for interest and support for such a course while building a framework of what such a course would look like. During this time builders including Hutchinson Builders & Abigroup and others expressed their interest alongside asset owners both public and private. Harold also contacted Chris Anderson, his major supplier. At the time, he was working in a national role for a large international remedial material manufacturer. Chris’ response was something along the line of “You’re onto something here. To date the industry has been relying upon PowerPoint presentations and bbq training sessions on this topic. Tell me more”. 

Several further years passed by as they continued to collect data and feedback from the industry. They joined as co-owners during a restructure with Harold du Toit’s specialist remedial contracting business Waterstop Solutions and became more closely involved in the course. Our cohort grew with educational consultant Dr. Heather McCosker-Howard while continuing to garner further support and input from industry stakeholders, allowing us to considerably flesh out the course concept requirements to better meet the needs of the industry. 

Until finally, in 2021, Remediation Durability Practices Pty Ltd was formed, and the course for the Diploma of Built Environment Remediation Practices occurred with ASQA for course accreditation. 

On 7 July 2022 the application to accredit the course 𝟭𝟭𝟬𝟵𝟱𝗡𝗔𝗧 – 𝗗𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗺𝗮 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 was granted by the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator (the Regulator) under the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011 (NVR Act). The course is now nationally recognised by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA), and no further accreditation is required in individual states and territories.
